Pakenham Camera Club Competition Rules
1. Only financial members of the club may enter.
2. Two prints and or two slides may be entered in each competition.
3. Monthly competitions are held in the following categories:
(1) Prints A Grade (2) Prints B Grade (3) Slides A B
4. Prints and slides, which have won places or have been highly commended, cannot be entered a second time in a monthly competition. They are however eligible for Print & slide of the Year competition.
5. Prints and slides may be entered in a competition a second time in the same format with a different judge or they may be substantially altered or re-done in an attempt to improve them.
6. All prints & slides entered during the year are eligible for entry in the annual Print & Slide of the Year competition in December.
7. Prints & Slides entered in any competitions must carry the following details:
(i) Membership number of the entrant, but not his/her name. This is to assure anonymity of the entrant for the judge.
(ii) A title for each entry – to help with easy & quick identification.
(iii) The subject and date of the relevant competition.
8. New members (unless decided otherwise by the committee) shall begin in B Grade.
9. There will be an assessment at the end of each competition year by the committee of possible movements up or down between A and B Grade, based upon points scored during the previous year.
10. All print entries must be mounted in some appropriate way.
(As well as improving presentation, a mount offers some protection to the print.)
11. Minimum size for print entries (including mount) is 5” x 7”
Maximum size for print entries (including mount) is 16” x 20”
12. Points awarded by judges will be between 1 and 100.
13. Points awarded to print & slide entries will count towards the aggregate prize at the end of each year – Photographer of the Year.
14. Annual Awards
(i) Photographer of the year
This is based on the total points awarded to entrants during the year. All points for entries entered into the monthly competitions are used to calculate the winner of this award.
(ii) Print of the Year
Chosen by an external judge from the entries submitted for this annual competition. Entries must have been entered in the current years monthly competitions. Maximum of two entries per person. There is an award for both A Grade and B Grade.
(iii) Slide of the Year
Chosen by an external judge from the entries submitted for this annual competition. Entries must have been entered on the current years monthly competitions. Maximum of two entries per person.
(iv) Aggregate competition
This is based on points awarded to entrants during the year and by using the following formula:-
(a) 1 point awarded for entering the competition
(b) 1.5 points for a highly commended.
(c) 3 points for a third place.
(d) 6 points for a second place.
(e) 9 points for a first place.
(v) Improvement award
Awarded by the committee to the photographer or photographers if there is a runner-up, who in the opinion of the committee have shown outstanding improvement during the year.
(vi) Special FX award
This is a competition held in memory of former Club member Graeme Montague. Graeme liked to dabble in the experimental side of his photographic hobby, and so in memory of him, the Pakenham Camera Club holds a special competition at the last function of the year. All Club members are invited to enter one of their special effects or more creative images. The winner is decided by secret ballot on the night, judged by all club members who attend.
15. Slide entries:
Should be spotted in the bottom left hand corner of the slide as you view it in your hand. It should also contain your member numer and title of the image in the top left corner, and the date and club subject center bottom of the slide.
